Inclement Weather Policy
The unique configuration of the academy poses a challenge in developing an Inclement Weather Policy that is well-suited for all situations. I want to be clear that student safety is absolutely the first priority and that families should individually weigh this factor even in situations where schools are not closed.
With that in mind, the Inclement Weather Policy for the academy is as follows:
- The academy follows Wooster City Schools’ decisions regarding Inclement Weather/Early Dismissal. If the Wooster High School schedule is changed (closure, delay, early release) due to emergency or weather-related circumstances, the academy will follow those changes.
- In the event that Wooster High School is open and the student’s home district is closed, classes at the academy will continue as scheduled and the student will be excused from school. Students are encouraged to report to school if and when the student and his/her family deem that it is safe to do so. Per academy policy, a signed written statement from a parent or guardian explaining any absence is required upon return to school.
- In the event that a student’s home district is operating on a delayed start, that student will be excused to arrive late to the academy by the same amount of time as the home school is delayed.
- Students should always follow the directions of law enforcement regarding leveled travel restrictions.
For the purpose of communicating closings in the local media, students should follow announcements made for Wooster City Schools or Wooster High School closing/delay information. No separate listing will be made for the academy.
